My fun filled evening! haha

If you live in Fenton, I am sure you had a pretty fun day like I did. NOT! At 4pm today, I was watching Dr. Phil and the weather came on (it was channel 6 in Lansing)... They were tracking a severe storm/tornado in Eaton County near Charlotte. Yeah, it was moving toward us, but usually those things die down...so I went on with what I do every Friday... work at Mega.

So I get to work at like 5pm, and the sky wasn't looking to nice, but I figured the storm would miss us and go to the north. Well, the lightning started, then came the thunder. Not soon after, the rain poured down on the area. We had a few customers, so we went on as normal. Well, a couple of regulars (on which I was waiting) were sitting right by the window, so I was able to watch outside while talking to them. Mind you, since there was a tornado in Lansing earlier so, I was starting to freak out!

We were watching the rain come down harder, and start going sideways because of the wind. There were leaves and branches coming from the trees and hitting the windows. Charlie and Sue (the regulars) told me that there was a tornado in Flint...and I started panicking! lol About 5 minutes later, a tornado was spotted in Lake Fenton. We had crowds of people watching the sky from inside the Mega. The sky started getting very dark, and we noticed that you couldn't even see the Target or TSC, not 200 feet behind us, and barely the Arby's. Charlie and Sue were watching the clouds swirling around into a funnel. Still, none of us took shelter in the Mega! What were we thinking!? Little did we know, a tornado had actually hit the TSC behind us!!!!

Can you imagine if that had hit the Mega? None of us were prepared? Why weren't we taking shelter? We were all too scared, and there were customers still eating! Next time the sirens are sounding, I am running into the coolers to take shelter! All of us waitresses were talking about taking shelter, but none of us did... We were waiting for everything to get still, but it calmed down, but never eerily still. So, we didn't think we had anything to worry about. I wish I had some pictures for you all, but just a story... I am going to carry my camera with me all the time now! lol

For those of you who know, I am terrified of tornadoes!! Ever since I was a child, I've had nightmares of talking EVIL tornadoes! So, talk about facing your fears! Watching a tornado about 100 yards away from you!
Needless to say, there is no power in Fenton, and there are a bunch of downed power lines. My mom has power, so Mark and I came to take refuge at my mom's! The power is expected to be out for 2-3 days, from what my dad tells me. Obviously, the Mega closed, but what about Wal-Mart? We were unsure if Mark was to go to work; the phone just kept ringing and ringing. So we figured we would go up there and find out. On our way, the radio station says there is a curfew in Fenton and Holly for 9pm. So we call CK 105 and the guy tells us that they are arresting people for being out past 9... so we decide to turn around and just chill at my mom's. Well, that was my fun filled evening! How was yours?

Wow! We saw some pics of the storm on Denise's blog, but your story had us on the edge of our seats! It is funny how people in restaurants take little heed of storms. We were once in a small medwest town when the weather channel guy announced the tornado heading for the town. We were the only one's to leave. We drove away from the storm and worked our way back around...the storm never hit the town. May too many false alarms for the natives is like calling wolf. Thanks for sharing Michelle.

You and all the others were very lucky indeed.. A first hand account makes a great story. I sent it out to others who do not do blogs and printed it for my hard copy book also. Grandma
